New Provider Newsletter on T2D Care and Patient Version Coming Soon!

This month’s health care provider newsletter notes two important observances: the discovery of insulin on July 27, one of Canada’s most significant medical breakthroughs, and World Hepatitis Day on July 28. These milestones inspired our focus on integrated care, especially the overlooked relationship between chronic liver disease and type 2 diabetes.

We spotlight the South Asian Health Strategy’s screening clinics in Surrey, which are now seeing over 300 community members per session. These culturally tailored events highlight the increased risk of diabetes among people living with hepatitis C, particularly in South Asian populations. It's a clear example of how community engagement and clinical insight can work together to improve outcomes.

Our research and academic partnerships continue to grow, with UBCO’s Obesity and Diabetes Research Day strengthening the connection between new evidence and front-line care. This theme carries through our updated clinical tools, including those addressing hepatic comorbidities and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) interpretation in complex cases.

We also launched our Patient Partner video series, where individuals living with type 2 diabetes share their experiences and insights. These stories are helping shape future educational resources.

A reminder that the first patient-facing newsletter is planned for release in August, based on monthly engaging themes and direct input from our patient partners and steering committee. We’ll be featuring stories, tips, and tools designed to empower people living with diabetes and connect them with culturally appropriate care.
